Welcome

Founded in 1958, HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States, and each year HOBY Alaska invites high school sophomores from across the state to participate in our local seminar hosted in Anchorage. HOBY provides students with unique, collaborative opportunities in leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences.

“HOBY has impacted my son in a tremendous way. All the staff members helped celebrate his 16th birthday on the first day of seminar and made his HOBY experience so memorable!

HOBY was an eye opening experience for him to listen to the speakers present how to serve our community, he met new friends around Alaska, and really learned how to accept people as they are. His Alaska seminar experience led him to attend HOBY WLC 2017 in Chicago.

He now says, ‘I volunteer because I want to make a difference!’ Thank you, HOBY!”

Our Impact

“For me, HOBY was a great start for a lifetime of leadership and service. After my sophomore year, I went on to assume leadership roles in FFA and served as the Alaska State President from 2001-2002, traveling the state and country promoting leadership in FFA. My desire to continue serving others–as emphasized in HOBY–led me to a career as a nurse and then to begin my own non-profit organization in 2015. In a time when youth are finding themselves and discovering what really matters to them in life, HOBY is a great springboard for creating tomorrow’s leaders.”
